May 2011, Edinburgh: One of Edinburgh's leading tourist guide iPhone apps just got even better. Visitors to Scotland’s capital now have access to the most extensive, interactive tours direct from their iPhone, with the launch of a massive update to the Digi-Guide Edinburgh App.

A modern, good value alternative to traditional walking or bus tours, Digi-Guide Edinburgh puts the destination experience firmly in the hands of the tourist and their own interests. The comprehensive guide brings together a wealth of information and a number of unique features in one simple, user-friendly Application. Combining audio commentary and striking photography with GPS map-tracking and local knowledge, Digi-Guide Edinburgh offers the widest range of downloadable tours of the city currently available. Other features include a guide to rainy day activities and the pick of the best places to eat and drink.

The 12 detailed tours highlight key landmarks and points of interest along the way, from classic trails around Edinburgh’s most iconic sites, such as The Royal Mile and New Town, to more unusual options, including the architectural and gallery tours, or guides to the city’s best shops and its most haunted locations.

The audio commentary function - a first in UK App tour guides, is narrated by a local resident and keeps visitors informed as they explore the city, giving a personal perspective and inside knowledge of Edinburgh’s hidden gems, off the traditional tourist track.

To celebrate the festive holidays, we have produced our very own tour guide to the City of London, with help from local Clarissa. The guide is available to download via the iTunes store and like all Digi-guide apps, it contains GPS locations, key city centre monuments, images and text commentaries, meaning you get closer to the real London. We are very excited to be heading up this new venture in tourism, especially as it begins in the run up year to the Olympic Games.

Having all this information pre-loaded on your iPhone allows tourists so much freedom and flexibility. At the touch of a button they can call up opening times and prices of London's top attractions or find their nearest restaurant for dinner and even find out everything they need to know about what London has to offer. It's as if you are being led around by a local.

Alexander Graham Bell back in Edinburgh!

Roam Edinburgh held its first ever photo shoot today and what a day we had!!! Under the experienced guidance of Helen Pugh (our Photographer) I headed into Edinburgh with none other than Alexander Graham Bell!!!! He was not looking bad considering he turns 163 on Wednesday!!! He was shocked by the technological advances which have been made sine he invented the telephone. My PR company ProfilePlus had also invited the media and we were joined by the Edinburgh Evening News too! Helen was great fun to work with as she suggested various poses to try out. She has posted a sample of the photo's on her blog.

What a start to 2010, our Roam Edinburgh iPhone is available from the Apps store!

Don't worry we haven't lost any of the excellent features contained on our Windows Mobile version. You can still be led on some really fantastic walking tours around the City of Edinburgh, hear about the colourful history of Edinburgh and its buildings/monuments or be simply led to one of our highly recommended restaurants. We have also kept our popular feature of what to do on a wet day, which given the amount of snow in Edinburgh over the past 2 weeks, is a very useful feature to carry around with you.

I am so pleased that they both really enjoyed their time in Edinburgh and that if was further enhanced by having a Roam Edinburgh Digi-guide. You can read their reviews of my guide at here.

I am contemplating offering a new service and it would be great to get feedback, so please leave me a comment on this below. Here is what I am thinking of doing - When you book a Roam Edinburgh digital walking tour guide you select up to 10 points of interest. I will then load your own personalised tour onto the guide, taking in your selected points of interest. So when you use it, it will show you how to get to where you want to go.

The Roam Edinburgh digital walking tour guides already take you directly to any point of interest they contain, but this way you would have a walking tour that would take in all the things you want to see.
